As our Singapore population ages, we tend to also want to refurbish our existing homes to give it a refreshing palette and keep it modern and a breathe of fresh air.
We recently re-designed such a home to provide the owners who have been staying there for a few decades with a new electic look that marries the heritage of their culture with a playful twist on colors.
The layout of the original home was kept simple and made use of the plenty of sunlight and wind flow that came from the balcony and window areas to help play up the old charm of the dining area and simple furnishings in the living area. The living room was boosted up with a bright electric blue wall that gave the room a modern and contemporary feel while the sofa set was re-upholstered in a tapered grey fabric tone to showcase its clean lines. The highlight of the area was the specially customised mild-steel divider panel between the living hall and the balcony area. It gave the two spaces an added edge of privacy while retaining the spaciousness of the rooms.
The kitchen was another area of pride for the home owners as they spent much time dwelling around here and wanted a spacious walkway to move around during food preparation. It was enhanced with specially curated Peranakan wall tiles to give the kitchen a rich flavour and a bright spark of color.
The bedrooms and bathroom were also designed to give it subtle clean lines that accenturated the owners preferences for simplicity and funtionality in their innermost spaces. This helped to complement the existing bedroom furnishings that were rich in their cultural heritage and priceless memories that the owners sought to preserve.
Overall, this was a home that has stood the barricade of time with its intricate family heritage while keeping up with modern times by adding light touches of color and spontaniety through its living spaces.Back
